Since development started on NECO Wind’s 650-Megawatt (MW) family of projects in September, our development team has had nothing but a warm welcome. Over sixty people attended our first landowner meeting in October at the Sedgwick County Fairgrounds where Patrick Pelstring, project developer for NECO Wind and co-founder of National Wind, presented an overview of the NECO wind development. The meeting generated a lot of interest in NECO Wind’s community-based approach to wind development and got our development off to a powerful start.
We also opened our first office in Julesburg in October. Field specialists JJ Jones, Jerry Keintz, and Kirsten Muncy work out of the office when they are not out at meetings with landowners. Landowners are also invited to meet with the field specialists in the office.
With the support of landowners and with leases with the Colorado State Land Board, we’ve now secured over 50,000 acres for our wind development project – more than half of the acres we need to complete all phases of our 650-megawatt development.
