Over 81,000 Acres Signed to NECO Wind

NECO Wind Energy’s goal is to develop 650 megawatts of wind energy and they continue to make headway toward this goal. The project’s strong support has led to increased local participation as nearly 125 landowners have signed their land to the footprint. With 81,000 acres signed, NECO has made swift progress and is nearly done signing the acres needed to develop the project. This means that NECO Wind Energy is coming ever closer to the next phase of development.

“The summer has been good to NECO,” says field specialist Jerry Keintz. “Our work in the area is really paying off and residents are getting excited about putting some turbines up. Farmers around here see the wind as another crop—an untapped source of revenue. As the project gains momentum, harvesting the wind is becoming an exciting idea. It’s a great analogy, especially now that we’re entering the traditional harvest season.”

Keintz expects the strong support to continue through the rest of the year and hopes to have all of our acres signed before November.
